Race Seven of the Bendigo Athletic Club cross country season, the Purtill’s Nursery 8000 metre handicap was won by wily old veteran Chook Stewart in an excellent over 60’s time of 33.11 minutes. The Chook looked more like the ‘Road Runner’ on the weekend, as he was being hunted down by the ‘Coyote’ Jesse Noden, but the ‘Chook’ had too many tricks up his sleeve around Crusoe Reservoir, winning by 10 seconds.
Third place went to Mark Purden who was 17 seconds behind the winner!
Winning the race, Chook Stewart also claimed top honours in the Flack Advisory Award, with Mark Perdon close behind & Peter Noden in third place.
Jesse Noden’s second placed run earned him top points in the Liz & Mark Findlay Under 23 Award holding out Timon Dooley & Jessica O’Hara.
Tim Dooley again flexed his muscle to take out this week’s fastest time honours in 27.26 minutes, well clear of Josh Sait 28.24 & Kyall Britten 28.29 minutes.
Fastest of the women was Jess O’Hara 34.52 minutes, nudging out Ingrid Douglass 35.13 and Kerrieanne Hocking, third fastest in 38.07 minutes.
The Bridge Hotel Open Award saw maximum points going to Dan Ryan over Josh Sait & Kyall Britten.
The Bendigo Original Pie Shop Ladies Award seen a much improved performance by Rhonda Schultz, being the first lady over the line, from Lyn Crome & Kerrieanne Hocking.
In the Junior Race over 1km, it was Isabella Ellis who showed the way, winning in 5.30 minutes ahead of Connor Findlay & Ava Stewart.
